"Sing for democracy" campaign web-site presented PDF Print E-mail

Presentation of a new site www.singfordemocracy.org took place on Friday in the frameworks of the campaign "Eurovision-2012: Sing for Democracy."

 

The site has videos, photos and information on human rights issues, said the coordinator of the Human Rights Club Rasul Jafarov. According to him, in January or February of next year, campaigners will meet with representatives of the European Broadcasting Association.

 

Active participant and organizer of the campaign, the director of the Institute for Peace and Democracy Leyla Yunus spoke about correspondence with the German Foreign Office about the violation of property rights in Azerbaijan. She sent a letter to a German company that is building a concert hall for the "Eurovision-2012" contest.

Director of the Institute of Reporters Freedom and Safety Emin Huseynov, offered to send a letter to President Ilham Aliyev with request to release political prisoners. According to him, a forty-minute film in English about the human rights situation in the country will be prepared.

Another campaigner, leader of the Alliance to Protection Political Freedoms Anar Mammadli noted that the human rights situation in the country has deteriorated. Mass discussions will be held within five months. A responsible person will be appointed for each specific area. He called on to hold protest rallies in the frameworks of the campaign.

The initiators of the campaign, which was launched this summer, are the Institute for Peace and Democracy, Institute of Reporters Freedom and Safety, Human Rights Club, Alliance to Protection Political Freedoms. Later civic movement "Nida", the organization "Free Youth", Democratic Youth School joined them.

The purpose of the campaign is to attract international attention to human rights violations in Azerbaijan   due to song contest "Eurovision 2012» which is to be held in Baku in May 2012.
